As a zen monk I was a total failure.
Frankly, I couldn’t muster the interest.
But I so badly wanted my life to have meaning.
The harder I tried, the worse it got.
So finally I approached the headmaster.
“Teacher, no matter how hard I try or chances I have even until the end of time, I will never achieve enlightenment.”
He was in prayer, kneeling before the burning incense. He did not turn to look at me yet I felt his eyes upon me as he said, “Now you’re enlightened.”
(Letting go is the answer.)
