After The Rain

The games we played
With those betrayed;
To hide our shame
From the coming rain.

Our war ran cold
Falling into the fold;
But the human stain
Does always remain.

The throats we slit
The lives we split;
The prophet of pain
Asks, what did we gain?

For a cause, a will to die
Because the truth made us lie;
Eyes deceived upon the plain
Futile gestures breaking vain.

Were we fools who ran away
With love's dream lost anyway?
Ideals embedded in our name
But were our lives of the same?

Cowering words when coming clean
Excuses lain in serpentine;
A clever sort! we loved to claim
Leaving only God to blame.

Tomorrow now is here today
No more "reason" not to say;
Helpless from the cleansing rain
Why our love did we refrain?
